1

In this first step I would like you to learn what Swine Influenza is so that you can be educated about it and know what it is. Swine flu is a respiratory disease most commonly found in pigs. In the past not many humans have ever had swine flu. However it is possible for a human to get infected. This new strand of Swine Flu is scaring people in the Southern states and Mexico because this new strand could become an epidemic outbreak. Please be aware that Swine Flu is contagious and can be spread from human to human easily.

Step2

I would like you to know that there have been outbreaks of the Swine flu in the United States. I would like to let you know about this website that lets you track the latest outbreaks in the United States, the website is: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/investigation.htm. As of today (April 27, 2009) New York has the most outbreaks of the Swine Flu with the number of people infected up to 28 known. The next most outbreaks in a state right now is California with 7 Cases. Kansas and Texas both have 2 cases and Ohio as of now is known to have one case as well. If you go to the above website that I provided in this step, you will see a chart on their web page that will give you daily updated numbers as well as more helpful information.

Step3

In this step I will include the steps of how to keep from getting the Swine Flu. These steps can be found at the CDC website as well. Please follow these steps to keep your family safe: 1. If you cough or sneeze please cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue after you have used it. 2. Wash your hands anytime you sneeze or cough thoroughly, CDC also says that you may use the alcohol type hand cleaners, they are also effective. 3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, this will help prevent the spread of germs. 4. Try to stay away from people who are sneezing or coughing. There is a good chance that they could be infected with the swine flu. and finally 5. If you get sick, CDC would like for you to stay at home in bed, do not risk going to school or work because this epidemic could be disastrous if it spreads. Also if you touch something that other people commonly touch like door knobs etc. Wash your hands as soon as possible afterwards… You may have seen on the TV news that many people in Mexico are wearing dust masks, this is actually a really good idea to help stop the spread, Goggles may be another way of protecting yourself from getting sick. Germs mostly enter your body through the mouth, nose, and eyes.
